Go + Tell

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

I shared at our church service from Matthew 28:1-10 and how we are all called as Christians to ‘come and see’ what God is doing so that we can ‘go and tell’ the good news. It occurred to me that sometimes we think our going and telling is insignificant. Small. Doesn’t really make that much of a difference.

Well.

Let’s pop some maths into this equation to see what impact a small start can have. If you took a single grain of wheat and doubled it for every square on a chessboard—that’s only 64, no biggy—then how many grains of wheat would you end up with?

The answer is 18,446,744,073,709,551,615, or roughly 18 and a half quintillion. You didn’t see that coming right?! Or how about this. If you had a chain of dominoes, starting with a domino the size of a tic tac and each subsequent domino was 1.5 times the size of the previous one, it would only need 29 dominoes to knock over a building as tall as the Empire State Building. The cumulative impact of gravitational potential energy in the case of the dominoes far outweighs what one would think a tic tac could achieve just by looking at it.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. . . ” Zechariah 4:10 NLT

You might think that your contribution to telling what God is up to in your life is small and insignificant. But telling of His good news in your life to only one person who ‘gets it’ and who then in turns tells another one person can have a mighty impact for God’s glory and for the good of our world.

Don’t underplay or despise the impact you can have as one person praying.

One person going and telling.

One person loving Jesus with all their heart, soul and mind.

God loves a bit of multiplication!

Please don't think what God's put inside of you doesn't matter! You are gifted and you have been given a story to tell. You don't have to tell it like someone else, just be you and share what Jesus has done in your life.

I'd love to hear what you have to say!
