Greater than the World

When my kids were younger they used to love trying to jump on my shadow as we walked along. They particular loved the game early in the morning or late in the afternoon as the sun was low in the sky and the shadows cast long on the ground allowing them extra area to 'capture' me. Baffled by their own shaddows, they would marvel, "Look how big I am!"

I love those shadow memes that do the rounds on the internet, below is a particular favourite, the dog's thoughts sometimes captured as "Wowsers (or a different word is used 🫢), I'm batman!"

All of a sudden, a small pup, considers that maybe there's something inside of him that is greater than he first realised. All because the sun shone on him.

I think sometimes we forget who and whose we are. Sometimes we listen to the wrong voices. Sometimes anxiety, fear or worry overtakes us. Sometimes we think we’re too small, too insignificant, too weak, too vulnerable to make a difference or do the things we need to do.

Do you know what?

I am weak. I am small (literally, ha!). I am insufficient and unable.

BUT.

The One that is in me is greater than the noise and voices of the world. And if by the grace of God you are a believer in Jesus as your Saviour then this is a promise for you too!

We don’t need to listen to the lies of this world, the false prophets, the spirits who do not speak truth. “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

What we see on the outside doesn’t always reflect the power, security, acceptance and assurance we have from the Spirit on the inside. When the Son is shining on (and in) us, we create a bigger impact than we realise. Just like our shadows, our reach or impact goes far beyond what could naturally be achieved, and it’s not because you have to be super and have it all together. It’s because HE, Jesus, is the One in you releasing His power and His strength: “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty” (Zechariah 4:6).

So let's not worry about our smallness, let Him level any mountains in your life today. All you need to do is go stand in the presence of the Son.
